Do you have a spinal subluxation?

Your spinal joints don’t move as they should which happens when you misuse or overuse your spine.

Causes: Injury, stress, poor posture When the joints are aligned, the vertebrae move smoothly. The discs cushion the vertebrae and help to absorb shock. The ligaments and muscles connect and support the vertebrae.

Subluxations cause ligaments and muscles to be stretched, in some cases possibly torn. The discs may bulge, herniate, rupture, or decrease the height leading to an impingement of the spinal nerves. You may feel stiffness, pain, and tingling or numbness in your arms and legs.

Stretching and movement will help alleviate the discomfort throughout your spine. Ice and heat can help an injury heal, or they can make an injury worse if not used wisely. Ice therapy helps reduce swelling and pain in the early stages of an injury. Bag of ice, frozen vegetables wrapped in a thin, damp cloth (not placing the ice directly on your skin). Place the ice pack over the injured area for not more than 20 minutes.

Heat therapy helps relax muscles and keep blood moving, but if used incorrectly may cause increased pain, swelling, and inflammation. Hot shower, a tub bath or hot tub provides more intense, moist heat. Heat pack/pad placed directly over the injury.

After an adjustment you still need to be kind to your back. It can leave you feeling better, Don’t strain, twist, or lift anything heavy. Don’t play sports or exercise hard. Stressed too soon can undo the alignment. Please rest for the first few hours after the adjustment. Go for an easy walk, lie on you bed or floor, use ice or heat as recommended. When you are lifting, bend your knees, not your back and keep the load close to your body. Use your core muscles along with your legs and arms to lift. Don’t twist while lifting.
